LG G2 – smartphone control reimagined. Review of LG G2 (D802): a proven flagship The screen of a mobile device is characterized by its technology, resolution, pixel density, diagonal length, color depth, etc.

The most important and main advantage of the LG G2 design is the minimal margins around the display. According to the company, the display occupies more than 75% of the front panel area of the smartphone. If you don’t know this figure, then offhand you can name an even greater value - it feels like the screen area is almost nine-tenths of the device’s area.

The width of the frame on the sides of the screen is about 2 millimeters. And there is practically no free space from above and below. As a result, the smartphone, which by all appearances should be 5-inch, fits a display with a diagonal of 5.2 inches - almost the same diagonal as the first Galaxy Note! Surprisingly, despite the ultra-thin frame, the smartphone is comfortable to use. Obviously, the system filters out accidental touches to the side edges of the screen - unlike the first-generation Galaxy Note, the device is much easier to pick up without touching the display.

The smartphone turned out to be not only surprisingly compact, but also quite light: our editorial scales showed 143 grams - exactly as much as the manufacturer claims in the official specifications. By the way, this is a very correct weight value, optimal: on the one hand, the LG G2 does not weigh on the pocket, on the other hand, it does not feel too light, “toy-like”.

Structurally, the G2 is designed in exactly the same way as Samsung smartphones: inside there is a durable magnesium alloy frame, but on the outside all the panels are exclusively plastic. And the plastic, of course, is glossy - under the laminate there is a texture reminiscent of fabric. Tellingly, in the first promotional photographs the back panel looked matte. Obviously, LG themselves understand that everyone is pretty tired of gloss, but for some reason they can’t get rid of it in reality, only in advertising images.

In company photos - and in reality. Can we have the one on the left?

However, it should be kept in mind that the device looks a little better in person than in the photographs. One of the nice features is the rounded edges of the glass that covers the front side of the G2.

In this model, the designers decided to completely get rid of the side buttons. As the manufacturer assures, this was done to increase the useful volume inside the case so that a more capacious battery could fit in it. The argument is rather dubious - with no less success, the side buttons could be placed in the upper part of the case, where the space is occupied by the motherboard in any case.

But what's done is done. The volume buttons and the power button are located on the back of the case. Is it convenient? Yes and no. On the one hand, you can safely forget about the power button. The device is turned on and off by double tapping on the front panel. The accelerometer is used to turn it on, and the touch screen is used to turn it off. That is, to lock your smartphone, you can simply double-tap any “empty space” on the display: a free area on the desktop or the notification panel, if a non-full-screen application is currently running.

The rim around the power button is illuminated by a milky-white diode when the button is pressed. It can also light up when there is an incoming call and the alarm goes off (but for some reason it cannot be configured for email notifications)

The volume buttons are also quite convenient when used for their intended purpose - during a conversation they are right under your finger. However, in programs for reading e-books, these buttons are used for scrolling - and in this role they are no longer so good: the smartphone has to be held with a specific grip, in which the hand does not hold it very securely. And it’s not difficult, for example, to snatch it out of your hands. In general, the decision to place the buttons on the back is not that critically wrong, but it still has its drawbacks.

The location and set of on-screen buttons can be customized

The holes through which the sound of the main, “loud” speaker comes out are located on the bottom edge of the case. For system sounds, this is the correct location: the speaker of a lying phone will not be blocked under any circumstances. However, those who like to play with sound will have to do it with headphones: the slots with a “two-handed” gaming grip are very effectively blocked by the hand. Perhaps this is for the best - those who like to play with sound in public places sometimes want to be quartered at the very least.

Most smartphone manufacturers place their logo at the top of the front panel. Simply because there is usually more free space left there. At LG, the logo is located below the screen - in fact, for exactly the same reasons, because the touch buttons in this model are on-screen. Because of this, when you take the device out of your pocket, you often automatically take it upside down in your hand. You can probably get used to it.

⇡ Hardware and communications

LG did not try to be original and used the fastest existing processor for its flagship - Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. To be completely precise, the version with a built-in modem is MSM8974. Let us remind you, just in case, that this system-on-chip is produced using a progressive 28 nm HPm technological process, which makes it possible to simultaneously achieve very high frequencies and very moderate power consumption.

The chip is manufactured using High-k technology - with a gate dielectric made of a material with high dielectric constant

On board the MSM8974 there are four processor cores based on the Qualcomm Krait-400 architecture - before the advent of the Apple A7, this was the most advanced of the ARM family architectures. The chip also includes a very fast Qualcomm Adreno 330 graphics adapter.

RAM, as is customary these days, is located directly on the processor case - on the second floor. In this case, its type is interesting - it is LPDDR3-1600: LG G2 is the first Android smartphone in which we encounter such a fast mobile RAM. In fact, even on the official website of the manufacturer - the SK Hynix company - there is no mention of this product. There is only relatively recent news, which talks about the release of a more modest version of the chip, 8 Gbit (that is, 1 GB) - World’s First High Density 8Gb LPDDR3. But in our case it is 16 Gbit - that is, 2 GB. That is, everything is completely cool.

Photo of an 8-gigabit LPDDR3 chip manufactured by SK Hynix - these are installed in the iPhone 5s. And in the LG G2 the chip is twice as capacious

In addition, the G2 has a specific memory that is not yet found in any other mobile device - GRAM, graphics memory, from which the LCD panel controller directly takes information about what it should display on the display. According to LG, this allows you to save up to 26% of energy (however, it is not specified how these percentages were calculated) if the picture on the display does not change. The graphics processor does not participate in the process of displaying images on the display and remains in a state of minimal power consumption.

Among the short-range wireless standards, the LG G2 supports Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, the mandatory Bluetooth slow but energy-efficient version 4.0 and NFC. There is also an infrared port that allows you to turn your smartphone into a universal remote control. The system comes pre-installed with a very intelligent program that is familiar with an impressive list of home appliances - and is ready to learn how to work with any other.

The modem works in conjunction with the Qualcomm WTR1605L transceiver, which helps ensure support for all current 2G and 3G frequencies and the widest possible list of LTE bands. True, there is a shortage of space inside the G2 case: not as many signal amplifiers were installed in the smartphone as in the Xperia Z1. So the list of 4G frequencies in the tested version of the D802 is limited to only five “bands”. This smartphone is almost completely suitable for Europe - including Russia - and will work in most Asian countries. But in America you will have to limit yourself to 3G networks - the Xperia Z1 is much more versatile in this regard.

However, if the quantity didn’t work out very well, the quality was very successful: the LG G2 holds the network surprisingly tenaciously. There was no question of losing connection “out of the blue” - on the contrary, the “ski” managed to work even in places where other smartphones begged for mercy.

The LG G2 was the only one of the three smartphones on hand that was able to provide data transmission at the bottom of this pit in the middle of a mountainous desert.

LG is one of those companies that are fighting for the title of the best smartphone manufacturer on the planet. In 2014, the Korean giant of electronics and household appliances presented to buyers and experts a very interesting LG model, which was very positive and which is a smaller version of the flagship LG G2. The phone turned out to be very interesting, so it’s impossible not to make a review dedicated to it.

Specifications

The manufacturing company from South Korea tried to do everything to make this smartphone the best, at least among the “small copies” of flagships. Therefore, the developers have equipped the phone with very strong characteristics. The processor consists of four cores, each of which has a clock speed of 1.2 GHz. It was decided to install 1 gigabyte as RAM, and 8 gigabytes as internal built-in memory. If this volume is not enough, then this smartphone supports MicroSD flash cards up to 32 gigabytes. The device itself has a screen diagonal of 4.7 inches, but its resolution is not very high, only 540 x 960. In addition, the operating system uses the latest version of Android - 4.4.

This smartphone has several names. One of them is the LG Optimus G2 mini, as a tribute to the corporation's previous line of smartphones - Optimus. The 8-megapixel camera of this smartphone adorns its back side, while the quality of the images remains at a fairly good level.

Ergonomics

Many people liked the design of the LG G2 mini. The appearance characteristics of the smartphone are very attractive. The entire phone is made of plastic. At first glance, everything is done at a fairly high level. The material itself is of very high quality, the phone fits very comfortably in your hands. On the front of the smartphone there are touch control buttons, as well as a speaker, and by turning the device over, you can find a rather interesting panel of the phone along with the main camera. The panel attracts special attention. The fact is that this is not just an ordinary piece of plastic, but slightly corrugated. This was probably done in order to avoid unnecessary soiling of the phone and to improve the grip of the LG d618 G2 mini white smartphone with the hand. If you look at the bottom end of the smartphone, you can find several holes. Two of them are speakers for talking, and one is a connector designed both for charging the phone and for connecting the smartphone to a personal computer. At the top end of the device there is a headset jack. It’s also worth noting that the phone’s power button (and is also located in an innovative way, namely on the back panel, right under the camera. This may seem a little unusual, but at the same time it’s quite convenient.

Display

LG G2 mini (technical characteristics of the display and its size) surprised everyone even at its announcement, because the screen diagonal is not the standard 4 or 4.3 inches, like other “younger brothers” of flagships, but 4.7. However, despite such a large size, the developers skimped on making its resolution 1280 x 960. Instead, we get an prohibitive 960 x 540. The glass coating of the screen itself is very pleasant tactilely and does not scratch too much, which is a definite plus. The screen brightness is at a very good level, and the colors displayed on the smartphone's display look very realistic. The problem occurs in bright sunlight. In this case, the image becomes faded and detail decreases. But this is a problem with many smartphones, so this fact should not be considered a particular disadvantage.

Software

The mini, which has quite good reviews from both buyers and respected experts, has the latest version of Android installed, namely Android 4.4. In addition, the company has developed several interesting programs that will facilitate not only the use of a smartphone, but also the use of various household and electronic appliances that are turned on using the control panel. The program can control almost every electronic item in your home via infrared. Another feature of the developers from South Korea is the KnockOn program, which allows you to turn on and off the screen of your smartphone with a few taps on the screen. This moment is very convenient and does not require much effort.

LG G2 mini, characteristics: battery and operating time

This is where the real plus and advantage of this model is in its battery. The battery capacity of the device is large enough for those smartphones that currently exist on the market. It is 2440 mAh. This suggests that you can use your smartphone for almost a whole working day for various purposes, and it will not require immediate charging. If you use your smartphone adequately, the battery charge can easily last for two working days.

Audio and video

The sound quality of this device is good, but still inferior to the clear leaders in these characteristics, which are NTS and Samsung. As for video, thanks to a fairly strong processor and a gigabyte of RAM, videos are played quickly and without stuttering. But there are problems related to screen resolution. Due to the fact that it is only 960 x 540, there are sometimes slight ripples in the frames.

Camera and photo quality

LG G2 mini, the technical characteristics of which do not raise any questions, has two cameras: the main one and the front one. The main camera has eight million pixels, which is quite normal for a small copy of a flagship. The quality of photographs taken by this camera is kept at a fairly high level. It should be noted that the detail and clarity of the image when shooting with a smartphone from LG is better than with similar smartphones from other companies. This cannot but please the first owners of this device, especially if for them the camera and the quality of photos in a smartphone are the most important factor.

Communications and Internet

Let's look at such an important factor for a phone as communication on the LG G2 mini smartphone. Reviews from many owners say that this is one of the best devices for accessing the Internet and chatting with friends. And perhaps they are right. The fact is that when you access the Internet, the connection occurs almost immediately, and the initial connection speed is always at a very high level. As for the Wi-Fi network, the situation is similar. When you find the required access point, the connection occurs instantly.

As for conversational communication, which is the main function of any phone, there are no problems here either. The interlocutor can be heard perfectly even at a speaker volume level of fifty percent. If you are on a busy street, an 80 percent volume level is enough to hear a friend located on the other side of the connection.

Equipment and prices for this gadget

After purchasing a smartphone from a South Korean company, you will receive a box with all the necessary components for the LG G2 mini. The paper instructions are the first thing you will see when you open the box. It may be useful for those people who are faced with the issue of using a smartphone for the first time. In this manual you can find all the necessary information regarding the device, its functions and capabilities. In addition to the documentation, you will also receive a headset in the form of headphones. Moreover, this accessory is of very good quality. Of course, if you are a music lover, then it is preferable to buy something better, but for the average listener these headphones are a pretty decent option. Another component in the box is a USB adapter designed to connect a smartphone to a computer. Well, the final item in the box is the charger. A case for the LG G2 mini is not included in the package, but you can always buy one almost anywhere.

As for the prices for this product, they are set independently by different stores. In some cases, the price of a given phone may vary depending on the additional flash memory. The average price of this smartphone is $275, which is quite reasonable, especially considering the characteristics it has.

LG G2 mini. Customer reviews and expert opinion

The smartphone from the South Korean manufacturer LG has collected a very good harvest in terms of reviews. Of course, each user was based on the price-quality ratio, so it is not surprising that the majority of reviews are very positive. Many ordinary users note the excellent battery as an advantage of the device. Some of them claim that they can go without charging for more than two days. Also, many buyers note the quality of photographs taken using the phone’s camera. The only factor, some users, is the design of the back panel of the smartphone. They claim that this design is not typical of ultra-modern smartphones, but of their grandmother’s glasses case. As “compensation”, some users suggest that the company also provide a case for the LG G2 mini in the package, but this is a bit excessive.

The opinion of experts largely coincides with the opinion of ordinary smartphone users. After conducting several comparative analyses, they came to the conclusion that this phone option is almost the best for the price of $275. The only drawback that they could not keep silent about is the small screen resolution. Although many people do not pay attention to how flawless the image on their screen is.

Let's summarize the review

LG is gradually starting to increase its share of the overall high-tech smartphone market, and it's safe to say that the LG G2 mini phone will be able to make this share even larger. This model has a 4-core processor, and each core is 1.2 GHz. Despite the fact that the smartphone’s RAM is one gigabyte, its performance is at a very high level. Don't forget about his camera. Despite the fact that, unlike the flagship, it is only 8 MP, the image quality is at a very good level. Moreover, no matter what time of day it was during the shooting. The new programs are very convenient. As for sound and communication, they are also at the proper level. Do not forget that we were only considering a budget version of a smartphone, the price of which does not exceed $300. And for such a price it is not always possible to find a high-quality device that can fully satisfy your needs.

It is clear that this LG d618 G2 mini white phone is not a clear leader among smartphones in terms of its characteristics, but it was produced as a competitor to similar smartphones from other companies. And it's safe to say that this product is a very interesting option for those who don't have the money for the LG G2, but like its design.

G2 has been on the market for a relatively long time and has gathered a fairly large audience of fans. During this time, the Korean smartphone managed to acquire a mini version, as well as a brother in a curved LG Flex case (read the review soon on our website). Can the G2 compete with 2014 devices from rival companies? Perhaps this is the main question, the answer to which easily explains the presence of a smartphone on shelves among new products to this day.

Equipment

The packaging, made of environmentally friendly paper and with soy-based ink, contains the device itself, a cable for connecting to a computer, a charger and a G-clip for removing the SIM card. There is no headset. For most buyers, this is a disadvantage, since not many people use their own headphones to listen to music. As a rule, complete “ears” are sufficient for them. For others, these savings for the manufacturer translate into a lower final cost of the product.

The smartphone is available in black and white. Quite recently the release of a model in a gold case was announced. It is obvious that LG has caught on to the market trend, when manufacturers supplement their ranks with a special version. This happened with the iPhone 5, Samsung is not lagging behind, and now LG has caught up.

Appearance

The G2 has an entirely plastic body. The silver edging is made of the same material. It is difficult to talk about the presence of any distinctive design in a smartphone. Obviously, Koreans do not attach much importance to this issue. Some people are happy with this, some are not. However, we have what we have.

The assembly of the device is at a high level, but this does not mean that the device is reliable. One of the advantages of this article is the ability to see what condition the phone may be in after a few months of use. So let's see!

If you refuse the case, including the branded QuickWindow, the back cover becomes covered with a fine grid of scratches.

Of course, you can always place the device face down, but in this case the display will be more exposed to external influences. Even though the screen is covered with Gorilla Glass 2, small scratches still appear.

Why am I doing all this? The G2 definitely needs to be protected with display films or some kind of case. Fortunately, an accessory from LG called QuickWindow not only saves the device from scratches and other things, but also adds interesting functionality to the device. In the small window of this case, the G2 is able to display in miniature almost all the main actions that are usually performed with a smartphone. In this case, it is not necessary to open the curtain of the case. All this will appeal to fans of such accessories, of which I am not one. Actually, the result of such rejection is obvious.

Directly below the camera, the plastic also turned out to be relatively brittle and cracks appeared. We once saw something similar in the iPhone 3GS. In the LG G2, this is still a consequence of careless handling, but you should be attentive to this point.

On top there is a microphone hole and an infrared port window for controlling various household and not very household appliances.

On the bottom of the device there is a mesh for the main speaker (to the right relative to the front of the device) and a mesh covering the microphone (to the left). There is also a microUSB port and a hole for connecting 3.5 mm headphones.

The right side of the smartphone is completely empty. On the left side there is a slot for a SIM card. When you move the SIM card, the device goes into reboot.

At the back there is a camera peephole with an LED flash. Below them is the company’s special pride - the device’s power button, framed at the top and bottom with volume keys and LED backlighting. This feature became the subject of heated discussion on various forums, and sometimes even condemnation from users.

Personally, I really liked this placement of the Power button for many reasons. Firstly, when holding the smartphone with your hand, the index finger actually rests on this button and therefore it is easy to turn on the display without moving the device with your fingers, trying to reach the top edge of the device. Secondly, of course, is photographing yourself. Whether you like it or not, like it or not, many users regularly take such photos. All thanks to the idea introduced by LG. The only thing that causes discomfort in this usage scenario is that, be that as it may, you will have to clasp the smartphone with your hands and unnecessary clicks on the screen may occur during shooting.

If LG's viewfinder interface included a key to lock the display, it would be much more convenient and enjoyable to shoot crossbows.

A dove on the roof, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and grandma’s carpet - with such a convenient key you won’t be too lazy to take another Selfie on any of these backgrounds.

Another fly in the ointment. In my opinion, the volume keys are too close to the power button. They are practically fused together. Because of this, misses occur when pressing. Otherwise, everything is great and original.

Another advantage of the G2's ergonomics is the use of the narrowest frames around the display. Due to this, it became possible to install a moderately large display without compromising the dimensions of the smartphone. The screen is stretched on the front surface as much as possible. There were no accidental clicks when using the device.

Above the screen there is a speaker covered with a chrome decorative mesh. To the left of it there is a light sensor and a proximity sensor. Even further away there is a peephole for the front camera.

I suggest you familiarize yourself with the digital dimensions of the G2 in comparison with competing solutions.

All controls are conveniently located, as we found out above. Except that the body of the device itself is quite smooth, which is why the device can slip out of your hands.

Display

The smartphone has a screen with FullHD resolution (1920×1080 pixels) with a value of 423 pixels per inch. The density is maximum, so it is almost impossible to notice the rasterization of the picture with the naked eye. The G2 uses an IPS matrix with a diagonal of 5.2 inches. Viewing angles, contrast and color rendition are at the highest level.

The brightness of the device is very high, but still does not burn out the eyes, as happens with flagships from Samsung. The light sensor performs its functions correctly and without errors. It is definitely possible and necessary to use automatic backlight adjustment.

The glass covering the screen has an oleophobic coating, due to which any dirt can be removed from the surface very easily.

If we draw parallels between the iPhone 5 and G2, then the latter has cooler and more natural colors. This is only noticeable if you directly compare the two devices. Let's look at examples (LG G2 on top, iPhone 5 on bottom):

Due to direct comparison, it is clear that the display of the Korean smartphone is superior in color reproduction to its Japanese colleague - Sony Xperia Z Ultra. Guidelines in photo form are below.

So, it is obvious that the LG G2 has one of the best screens among all the flagships on the market.

LG G2 (D802) has the following technical characteristics:

  • Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 processor, 2.26 GHz (4 cores)
  • video accelerator Adreno 330
  • RAM 2 GB
  • 16 or 32 GB data storage memory (not expandable)
  • 5.2’’ display (IPS matrix) with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels (423 ppi)
  • base camera 13 megapixels, autofocus, LED flash
  • front camera 2 megapixels
  • non-removable battery 3000 mAh
  • dimensions 70.9 x 138.5 x 9.14 mm, 143 g
  • OS and platform: currently Android 4.4.2 (KitKat), LG Optimus UI platform
  • GSM, HSPA+, LTE
  • Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n), access point mode, Wi-Fi Direct, Miracast, NFC, OTG (connecting USB devices via adapter)
  • GPS, infrared port

Unfortunately, the LG G2 does not support memory cards.

There are two smartphone models on sale: with 16 and 32 GB of memory. It is unknown what justifies the refusal of additional data storage volumes, however, for a 2013-2014 flagship, the refusal of memory cards in an Android smartphone seems to be something out of the ordinary. Well, there is no ideal in the world, it’s time to get used to it.

As for the overall performance of the system, it evokes only positive emotions. The interface, animation, opening applications - everything works very quickly. There has never been a time when the smartphone faltered at any point, including when loading heavy programs. The proprietary shell from LG Optimus UI is perfectly optimized.

Camera

The main camera of the device is a 13 megapixel sensor with optical image stabilization and 9-point focusing. The camera eye is covered with sapphire glass, which in theory protects the surface from almost any scratches.

The camera settings are initially set to a resolution of 10 megapixels (4160x2340 pixels) to match the image with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Of course, you can manually set the maximum parameter - 13 MP (4160x3120 pixels).

Yes, the G2 has true optical image stabilization. Typically, manufacturers limit themselves to digital add-ons, but LG did not compromise. The image stabilization system (OIS) really helps to achieve better results when shooting. This is especially true for night photography, when a significant shutter speed is required.

Let's look at example photographs.

It is obvious that the sensor copes well with most of the possible shooting scenarios. Detailing, color rendition, noise reduction - everything is at a high level. Overall, the camera is one of the smartphone's strongest points.

I'm glad that LG has done such a good job of bringing the photo capabilities of its flagship to the maximum level.

Of course, the quality of images is often a very subjective parameter. In my opinion, the Korean flagship handles photography very well.

There are a lot of preset shooting scenarios. There is an HDR mode, auto skin retouching, night photography and much more. You can create regular panoramas or all 360 degrees at once. I liked the implementation of the latter more in the HTC One, where both processing and viewing of such a panorama were thought out better.

In addition, in the settings you can activate the Cheese option, which allows you to take pictures by saying various words: “Cheese”, “Whiskey”, “LG” and others. The feature is interesting, but it works crookedly and is therefore useless. Of course, it’s possible that I’m somehow slurring my words, but in my defense I’ll say that Google Now understands me perfectly.

The front module is capable of taking photos in a resolution of 1980×1020 pixels, using retouching modes, night shooting modes, and recording from two sensors at once.

Now about the video. The smartphone allows you to create videos in a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels at 30 or 60 frames per second. The quality of the shooting is at a high level, but what can we say when we can turn to examples.

Of course, there are several additional scenarios, including creative settings, but there are also simply fun modes, so to speak, to demonstrate the capabilities of the smartphone. Let's take a closer look at the most interesting of them.

1. The front camera records video in a small window, which is superimposed directly on the main video created by the main camera. The frame type can be changed by clicking on the arrow at the bottom of the screen right during recording.

2. Tracking zoom- This is a mode that is suitable for documentary filmmakers. There is a general shot, which is recorded by the rear camera, and there is an enlarged picture, which is isolated from the general flow and placed in a frame on top of the main frames. In this way, a smartphone can be used as a video recorder, additionally recording the license plates of cars in front. Nobody will leave!

3. AuidoZOOM. LG was the first to implement in smartphones the function of recording sound produced by a specific object. During video recording, a corresponding icon appears, after clicking on it, in order to directionally capture the audio stream, you need to bring the desired object closer with two fingers. Unfortunately, this results in a loss of picture quality, since only digital zoom is used, but extraneous noise is indeed muffled. The add-on is interesting, but it is just a toy, the operation of which is provided by digital algorithms. I hope it is clear that the equipment that provides such directional capture of the sound stream has a slightly different implementation and cost.

However, you can see, or rather, hear the capabilities of AudioZOOM on video. I recommend using headphones and catching the setting turning on/off at 8 (on), 27 (off) and 34 (on again) seconds of the video.

Sound and video quality

The quality of audio playback is at an expectedly excellent level. Excellent for devices of this class. It is impossible to listen to music at maximum volume, but, of course, this parameter depends on the specific headphones and user preferences. However, G2 warns against listening to music at high volumes. There is nothing more to say. Everything is standard for a top-end device.

In the player settings, you can select various effects, create your own playlists, view information about tracks, etc. There is a seven-band equalizer.

The smartphone also allows you to play video in the most common formats: AVI, MKV (XviD, H.264 codecs). Rest assured, DVDRip, Web-DL, BDRip even in FullDH resolutions work fine, no, they even run on the device.

When the video is expanded to full screen, you can adjust the backlight by swiping your finger on the left side of the display, and the sound on the right.

Chips

Let's move on to the interesting goodies that the manufacturer lovingly included in its G2 and mentions them at every opportunity in all advertising brochures.

The response and reaction of the smartphone to any manipulation is at the highest level. This applies primarily to the operation of such functions as . By double tapping on the display, the smartphone wakes up from sleep mode, where it is entered in the same way. Usually G2 reacts to such activation the first time, but sometimes it only works the second time. This phenomenon is rare and not at all annoying. Moreover, during testing I got so used to this feature that I try to activate other devices as well.

Which debuted in this smartphone, is designed to fight curious citizens. Don’t feed the latter with bread, but let them get into your photographs, correspondence or anywhere else. The option must first be configured from the menu by adding applications that you don’t mind showing to a stranger. You must first activate the unlocking of your smartphone with a pattern key. Now no one will look into your photos or read notes about personal growth or your Auchan shopping list. Thanks LG for this!

The built-in browser and only it has an interesting extension - CapturePlus. Using it you can save, for example, this entire review as a huge screenshot in JPG resolution. The image is processed before saving it through the Android gallery or G2’s own viewer. The first one never managed to save the drawing. But the alternative viewer greatly compresses the screenshot, which is why the aesthetic component is lost, but everything you need to read can still be read.

LG has its own ideas about multitasking, so the developers added the function Slide Aside. Using this utility, you can hide several applications to the side with three fingers without closing or minimizing them. They continue to work and can be easily reached from the left edge of the screen at any time with the same gesture. Whether this add-on is convenient or not, everyone will decide for themselves, but with the same ease as KnockON it does not develop into a habit.

— an application that simulates a control panel for household appliances. The program contains many profiles for a variety of devices. The smartphone picks up any technology quickly and painlessly.

QMemo is a proprietary notepad application. From sleep mode it is called by holding the volume up key for a long time. In addition, in any other application the utility can serve as an instant notebook. For example, when talking with a subscriber, the corresponding button in the settings curtain instantly creates a screenshot of the screen and pulls out a toolbar for sketching the necessary information. A useful thing, you just need, again, to accustom yourself to using it.

We have become familiar with the main features of the proprietary shell.

The programmers at LG are definitely not eating their bread in vain - serious work has been done. Does the user need this?

In market conditions, a situation has arisen where the answer to this question is unimportant. There is a certain gentleman's set of software features that absolutely any flagship should have. The rest is not discussed! Take, for example, tracking the user's eyes when they look at the screen or look away. Similar functions have been available in solutions from Samsung for a long time. Now LG is not far behind.

For you and me, such a manufacturer’s desire to show off only gives us an excuse to learn something new. The main thing is that all these utilities and add-ons do not interfere with the use of your smartphone if they are not in demand!

Autonomous operation

The smartphone has a non-removable battery with a capacity of 3,000 mAh. The need for such a significant battery capacity is dictated by the installation of very power-hungry hardware in the device. With moderate use (10-20 minutes of calls a day, notifications and checking email in the background, surfing the Internet 2 hours a day), the G2 can last about two days on a single charge. Unfortunately, no more.

Of course, the device has a special power saving mode, which is activated at 30% battery level (configurable from the menu). The setting does not activate any special algorithms, but is limited only to quickly turning off the display backlight, turning off the vibration response and something else.

Those who wanted to already managed to buy the LG G2, since it was released on sale in October 2013. Is this smartphone worth paying attention to now?

Yes, it's worth it! At the time G2 entered the market, its price was very attractive and amounted to 25,000 rubles. Now the official price of the device has stopped at 19,990 rubles for the version with 16 GB of memory and 21,990 for the model with 32 GB. In my opinion, not bad for a flagship with current technical and software characteristics. Of course, in some respects the G2 is inferior to the recent Sony Xperia Z2 or Samsung Galaxy S5, but wait a minute. The price difference does not correspond to the technical differences at all.

The LG G2 is a reliable smartphone with solid hardware, an excellent camera and well-optimized software. Yes, in terms of design, it cannot compete with the HTC One or the same Apple iPhone 5S, but this does not bother many at all. You have to pay for better materials and appearance, and here you need to be aware of what is more important to you. In terms of price/quality ratio, G2 still has no competitors.

Where is his button? LG G2 smartphone review

At the end of November, LG Electronics announced that its G2 smartphone, which is now sold in most consumer electronics retailers, has become available throughout Russia. "Vesti.Hitek" already wrote about this unusual phablet from the Korean company, which replaced its successful flagship Optimus G, and promised to tell us more about the LG G2.

    3D REVIEW LG G2

Finally, LG has its own “Galaxy S4”! Strange phrase, isn't it? And even somewhat offensive, probably, since it draws parallels with its closest competitor... However, we express this exclusively in a positive sense - LG has long needed a worthy analogue of the “fourth galaxy”, and now it has appeared - a powerful flagship called G2.

LG G2 smartphone review: from good to best.

Just a couple of years ago, smartphones from the Korean company LG were viewed rather skeptically. But having released several very successful models in a row, which include Optimus G and Optimus G Pro, the company has proven that it is no worse than other A-brands. And in some places it’s even better. Meet: LG G2, one of the best modern Android smartphones.

    LG G2 smartphone review

Maybe the company will finally get lucky? This is exactly the question that remains with me after a month and a half of using the new flagship LG G2. There are no other questions (almost none), the G2 is one of the first LG smartphones that finally has balance, thoughtfulness, and for every minus there are several pluses. This is a successful smartphone and if I start a review of a device with such laudatory odes, it means there really is something in it, believe me.

LG G2 smartphone review: marriage of convenience

Mobile device manufacturers are definitely benefiting from the release of Google phones. Where was LG before the Nexus 4 was born, also re-released under the name Optimus G? And now it’s a completely different matter. For example, we are inclined to call the G2 the best smartphone of the season - and who would have thought about this just a year ago...

LG G2: outside and inside the new Korean flagship

LG smartphones have always been something from a parallel reality for me. Like the famous Korean singer PSY - I know that he exists, I’ve seen a couple of videos and I know people who bought his records on iTunes. But somehow the thought of listening to Gangnam Style at home did not arise for the soul.

Review of LG G2 - a balanced device for 25 thousand

Today an extremely interesting device arrived for testing. Recently, smartphones that are interesting to write about have not appeared so often. The thing is that you rarely see any new approaches, an attempt to look at this or that problem from a slightly different angle. In most cases, it all comes down to the fact that they made the same thing, but in a gold case, yeah. It is all the more surprising that the new product came from the office of LG, which can hardly be called a top player in the mobile device market. The LG G2 smartphone attracted attention with some of its features even at the familiarization stage at the IFA-2013 exhibition, so its full testing was awaited with special interest. So, the LG G2 smartphone is a guy whose best is behind him.

LG G2 review: a balanced flagship

At the beginning of August, LG introduced the latest generation flagship smartphone - LG G2. Of course, the gadget received ultra-powerful hardware, but LG understands that it is difficult to win the hearts of customers just by increasing the number of gigahertz and gigabytes (of course, this is a little exaggerated, but that’s the gist), and therefore has equipped its new product with a large number of different “chips.” . Both noticeable, for example, in design and software, and not so noticeable - we are talking about unusual solutions in the filling of the smartphone. All this together leads to a very unusual, but positive, as they would say in the West, user experience.

GPS: There is
Battery: Li-Pol 3000 mAh
Dimensions: 70.9 x 138.5 x 9.14 mm
Weight: 143 g
Additionally: accelerometer, light sensor, proximity sensor
Price: in Moscow on average 20 thousand rubles. The characteristics are generally very decent. A powerful 4-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 5.2" Full HD display, a good battery. True, there is no support for memory cards, but with 32 GB on board this is unlikely to create problems. (And, as my personal experience has shown , with 16 GB you can also, in general, live, although with limitations.) Equipment It comes in this unassuming box. Inside: a smartphone, a USB-microUSB cable, simple (read - poor) headphones/headset, a power adapter and a proprietary moral clamp for removing the SIM card slot.
Appearance and features Externally, the LG G2 does not make much of an impression - just like smartphones from Samsung. Apparently, these are features of Korean design in the “Soap dish is the crown of nature’s creation” style. The black version, by the way, looks nicer, the white one is a real soap dish. The back is the same glossy plastic. It slips in your hands and holding the phone is not very comfortable. But not fatal. The bottom end has a microUSB output, a headphone/headset output, a speaker and a microphone.
The upper end has a second microphone (for noise reduction) and an infrared sensor (the smartphone can operate as a universal remote control).
But the LG G2 is next to the HTC One and Lenovo K900. Note that the LG G2 and HTC One look almost identical. At the same time, the HTC One has a 4.7" display, but here it is 5.2" - due to a very thin frame around the edges.
And here is the larger G-spot: the power button and volume rocker.
There are no complaints about the quality of assembly and finishing: everything looks very good. Display IPS display with a diagonal of 5.2", FullHD resolution, pixel density - 423 ppi. Very good viewing angles (traditionally for IPS), excellent brightness reserve: in the most ordinary daylight the comfortable level is 60%. In the sun it does not go blind too much. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 2, which, apparently, is coated with some special compound, thanks to which the finger glides on the glass a little better than on other smartphones. This is especially noticeable when you compare the sliding on this smartphone and others. then others. There is a more pleasant feeling - obviously due to some kind of coating. Well, ZeroGap technology is used here - there is no air gap between the protective glass and the LCD panel. This allows you to reduce the thickness of the display by as much as 30%. Device operation The smartphone runs on Android 4.2.2, but it has its own shell installed and all system applications have been replaced. There are also several specific applications developed by LG and other companies installed. Let's see how it all looks and works. The main desktop. Immediately pay attention to the on-screen buttons at the bottom: return, home and menu. So, here these on-screen buttons can be swapped and configured - it’s very, very convenient, I’ve never seen anything like this.

A second desktop with a convenient music listening widget.

For icons, you can not only change the pictures, but also increase the size four times. You can also create photo icons from any images.

Rich notification area: scrollable quick settings icons, QSlide applications (more on them below), brightness and volume settings.

Quick settings are flexibly edited.

All applications installed on the system.

Widgets.

With a gathering movement of two fingers, you can call up a preview of all desktops installed on the system, where you can set the main desktop, change their location and create new desktops.

Swiping the Home button brings up Google Now or a quick note.

Desktop menu.

Installing applications, widgets, wallpapers.

Home screen settings. It’s convenient that you can configure blocking of the book format of desktops.

Screen lock settings.

And here is the lock screen itself.

You can slide this screen and choose a widget to set on the lock screen - for example, a world clock.

By the way, you can set your smartphone to turn the display on and off when you double-tap the screen - this is convenient. Settings that appear when you connect your smartphone to your computer. The smartphone installs the PC software itself.

Menu when you long press the power button.

There's also a very interesting clipboard here. It stores not the last operation, but several operations of copying to the buffer, from which, when entering the paste mode from the buffer, you can select the one you need - this is very convenient.

QSlide Qslide are special applications that can run in windowed mode. You can change their size, move them around the screen, make them transparent. For example, contacts.

Calculator.

Telephone Phone application. At the top there is a contact search bar, it is very convenient. (In standard Android there is no such line.) It also supports quick search (and subsequent dialing of the phone number) by the first letters of the last name and first name.

Phone application menu.

Phone app tabs can be edited and rearranged.

A subscriber with an LG phone can also be invited to a conversation via VuTalk. This application allows you to exchange visual information simultaneously with a conversation: notes, screenshots, and so on.

Favorites.

Incoming call - three options, including reject with standard SMS.

Talk.

The phone's connection quality is very good: subscribers can be heard well and they can hear me without any interference. There is also an option to reduce interference when talking in a noisy room - it works well, I checked it. SMS/MMS Messages. And here’s what’s really inconvenient - there is no option to mark all messages as read, you definitely need to go into them.

Messages menu.

In the settings you can set spam words, spam numbers, and block unknown senders.

The pop-up message window is a handy feature: you can read what people are writing without opening the SMS application.

Also here you can customize the wallpaper of messages and their appearance.

Photo and video Photo and video gallery.

The video player is quite advanced and has many customization options.

If you click on a special chevron on the player, you can display a list of videos on the second half of the screen.

It supports SmartShare mode - the ability to send media content to other devices via Bluetooth. Even FullHD videos were played back by the smartphone without any problems.

Images and videos can be sorted by album, location, and creation date. Certain albums can be hidden from search results - this is convenient.

Working with images.

Sending an image.

Keyboard The keyboard layout is, in my opinion, simply ideal. But the buttons could have been made a little larger - it’s a little difficult to hit them.

It also provides the ability to move the keyboard to the left or right - for more convenient typing with one hand. Notebook Handwritten notes, drawings, text, stickers and so on.

Audio The audio application seems to look like a standard Android one, but there are many possibilities: selection by songs, albums, artists, genres, playlists, folders, from other devices, in the cloud (Dropbox or Box).

A 12-band equalizer is also available in the settings.

The smartphone's speakers are placed in such a way that it is almost impossible to close them. They sound good, but it is clear that little can be expected from the built-in speakers. The original headphones are of low quality, but it looks like they were intended to be used only as a headset for conversations. It is impossible to listen to music through them - there is no bass at all, the sound is flat. But as soon as I connected good headphones, the quality was already very decent: here you have both bass and volume. So the smartphone sounds good with headphones. Weather Nice app. You can specify several cities and change viewing modes.

Video editing A simple application for video editing - for example, home videos shot on a smartphone.

Watch Alarm clock, timer, world time, stopwatch.

LG Backup Powerful backup utility that allows you to select different items to save: desktops, personal data, media data, applications, settings. A very useful program.

Backup settings.

Life Square A convenient (according to the developers) form of presenting multimedia information and your posts on social networks. I didn't appreciate it.

Universal remote In the QuickRemote program, you can add your remote-controlled devices, after which your smartphone will turn into a universal remote control. This is a handy thing.

Task Manager A convenient task manager that allows you to see which applications are running and stop all or some of them. It’s good that there is such an application here - I prefer branded ones, because all sorts of strangers do not always work correctly.

Translator Program for fast translation. One dictionary is provided free of charge. It can also scan text and recognize it.

File manager A convenient file manager where files can also be selected by type.

Selection of documents.

View the document.

Guest mode Quite a convenient thing. You can set a special guest mode in which only the applications you select will be displayed.

Settings The settings here are divided into several groups, the switches are made very clearly, and the settings have very interesting options that are not available in regular Android. Pay attention to the gesture control setting - there are a lot of possibilities there.

Well, the settings for the on-screen buttons are simply brilliant, I have never seen anything like this anywhere. An additional icon is to open the notification window. Convenient too.

Case QuickWindow As I already wrote, this smartphone can work with a special QuickWindow case.

The case looks like this. (By the way, they come in completely different colors.)

The back with an inserted smartphone. When the case is closed, all sorts of information can be displayed in the rectangle on the front of the smartphone: various clocks, weather, messages about missed calls and SMS, and control the audio player. This is what it all looks like.

Camera The camera interface is simple and convenient.

Types of shooting modes.

Settings.

It takes good pictures, but nothing special. With white balance, like all smartphones, it occasionally fails. It also happens that he misses the mark with focusing. I don’t understand what the promised “stabilizer” does there, because the camera sucks in exactly the same way as its competitors. So I think that this “stabilizer” is purely a marketing joke. Here are some example pictures. (Clickable.)

This is where he got it wrong - both with balance and with exposure. Oddly enough, smartphones often fail in this shot.

Well, here's an example video.

Performance The smartphone feels very fast, and tests confirm this. Here is the Quadrant Standard. True, he compares it with old phones. But, for example, HTC One has 11996, Galaxy S 4 has 12080.

Antutu tests. This is where the new devices come in.

Battery life A very important parameter: most flagship smartphones barely survive until the evening. And then the LG G2 simply surprised me. It showed really long battery life. But here, in addition to all sorts of tricky power saving modes, the so-called graphics memory is used. The fact is that other smartphones constantly redraw the picture every second, even if the image on the display is static. In the LG G2, graphics memory (GRAM) is responsible for a static picture - without consuming smartphone resources. Energy consumption is reduced by 10-15%. However, even this does not explain how the smartphone manages to produce the battery life indicators that I will now give. If I, as usual, had not carried out all these tests myself from beginning to end, I simply would not have believed it. So. Internet. The brightness is about 80% (I tested it on a sunny day, I had to add brightness to make it comfortable), all wireless networks are turned on, the page reloads in the browser every 30 seconds. 10 hours 50 minutes until shutdown! Samsung Galaxy S 4 - 8 hours 35 minutes. HTC One - 9 hours. Video. The "Airplane" mode is turned on, the brightness is set to 70%, and the series is playing in a loop in MX Player with hardware acceleration. 15 hours 33 minutes. Again - 15 hours 33 minutes! I was tired of waiting: I turned it on at 23:10, the video played until 14:43. Samsung Galaxy S 4 has 9 hours 12 minutes. Well, purely from practice - the LG G2 always lived quietly until the evening with very intensive use, and it still had 20 percent charge left. If you use any additional saving modes (remove auto-sync and turn off wireless networks when not in use), it lives quietly for two days. Moreover, what is valuable, even when nothing is specially applied, he eats very, very little during the night. In general, everything is just fine with this parameter! Especially when you consider that the smartphone is no different in compactness from the same HTC One. Observations and conclusions I carried this smartphone with me a lot (I had to find out how it behaves in combat conditions) - I didn’t notice any glitches. In my opinion, this is now one of the best smartphones on the market. And, of course, it easily competes with the main flagships from Samsung, Sony and HTC. And in some ways it even surpasses them. The G button with a volume rocker is a good solution. Especially for the case when the phone is held in the right hand - the index finger automatically rests on this button. However, since the phone can turn on and off by tapping the display, I usually use this method. And adjusting the sound using the rocker located on the back cover is very convenient. (As well as turning pages with them while reading.) For some time I was choosing between it and the also quite successful Lenovo K900 phone, which has a 5.5" display and very good proprietary software. But the LG G2 is, of course, better, so In the end, I settled on it - this is now my main phone. But I’m not a fan of the QuickWindow cover - it’s inconvenient for me to fold back the front of the cover every time I need to use the phone. But I don’t like covers for smartphones at all. Well, now let’s do it. Let's list its pros and cons. Pros:
very good characteristics; excellent display; convenient “G button” with volume control; excellent software with flexible settings; ability to customize on-screen buttons; own advanced backup; excellent battery life with small dimensions; good sound in headphones; reasonable price; very good performance.
Minuses:
rustic soap dish style design; glossy plastic on the back cover; average quality camera; Lack of memory card support.
But in general, against the backdrop of the fact that LG did little in this segment, now I can give them my compliments - the smartphone, in my opinion, turned out to be simply excellent. An A with a slight minus.
