I can't connect to the TV via my phone. We connect the Android smartphone to the TV. Using wireless image transmission in practice

Hello dear readers of the blog site. Today, each of you cannot imagine your life without phones, tablets and various gadgets. However, not everyone knows about the advanced capabilities of these devices. In this article I want to talk about how to connect your phone to a TV.

Many users may ask the question: what is this for? Personally, I had to deal with this when it became necessary to show certain photos from my mobile phone to quite a large number of people. However, in addition to showing pictures, this connection can be used to display prepared presentations, watch movies on the big screen and transfer the virtual space of mobile games.

Many of you probably understand that connecting a phone or tablet to a TV is quite simple. About the same. And you'll be right. However, this can be done in fewer ways. It is about them that I will talk further.

How to connect your phone to TV via USB cable

This method is one of the simplest. The fact is that any modern phone comes with a cable for connecting to a computer. This is exactly what we have to use.

If you use this method, the phone will play the role of a storage medium (flash drive) and you will not be able to get a second virtual space at the same time.

If you need just such an application, then let's move directly to the description of the actions.

First, connect the cable to the connector on the phone.

The next step is to connect your phone to your TV.

I forgot to say that this type of connection is only possible with a TV that has an appropriate USB connector. Fortunately, all modern models have one.

After connecting, you need to select how to use this device on your phone. For our needs, select “Data transfer”.

The final step will be setting up the connection on the TV itself. Depending on the manufacturer, the choice of connected device will vary slightly. I’ll tell you how to do this using an LG TV as an example, but for other models everything is approximately the same.

Taking the remote control in hand, find the “Input” button (on other TVs this button may be called “Sources”) and press it.

As a result, the available connection methods will be displayed on the TV. Select the connection type “USB” and go to the root folder of your phone.

Using the control panel, we find the required file to display. It's that simple.

When playing videos, make sure your TV supports the appropriate format.

Connect your phone to TV via HDMI cable

The connection principle itself is very similar to that described above. However, there are two distinctive points:

  • To connect in this way, you need to purchase an appropriate adapter, or a ready-made cable with a connector for the phone and for hdmi, respectively.

  • This type of connection will allow you to use the TV as a second space. Playing video files, displaying pictures and presentations, as well as transferring the gaming space from mobile devices in real time.

By connecting the cable directly or through an adapter, select the input source on the TV. In our case, this will be the HDMI connector.

Do not forget that the TV usually has several connectors of this format. However, when selecting a source in the settings, exactly the input to which the phone is connected will be active.

Connect your phone or tablet to your TV via wifi

In addition to the possible connection using a cable, there is a way to transfer images from your gadgets to your TV using a wireless connection.

If you have even a slight idea about this possibility, then you have probably heard about such concepts as WiFi Direct and Miracast. In fact, Miracast is a protocol built on WiFi Direct data transmission technology.

The advantage of this approach is that there is no need to create and connect devices to the wireless router ().

I hope that for every reader it is logical that both devices should support this technology.

However, if your TV does not have this feature, you can fix this by using special adapters that plug into the HDMI connector.

In devices based on Android OS, this technology is pre-installed. Its use is carried out thanks to the settings of the mobile device. IOS-based gadgets do not support this technology, but owners of Apple devices should not be upset, since there are quite a large number of free applications.

So, to connect a phone running Android OS to a TV via wifi, you need to follow these steps:

Wi-Fi Miracast

  1. In the TV settings and in the “Network” section, activate the Miracast item (on some devices it may be called “Screen mirroring”).
  2. On your mobile device, go to the settings section and turn on the WiFi module.
  3. On the phone, in the “Additional functions” section, select “Wireless display” and activate it.
  4. If all steps are performed correctly, the name of your TV will be displayed on the screen of your mobile phone or tablet. Let's choose it.
  5. The synchronization process and, depending on the TV model, additional, intuitive settings will appear on the TV.
  6. The result of all actions will be the display of your phone's screen on the TV.

For iOS devices, launch the pre-installed application, which will also display a selection of the device to be connected. All further actions are similar.

Wi-Fi Direct

With this method everything is approximately the same.

  1. Turn on WiFi.
  2. In the phone settings, in the wireless connection section in “Advanced settings”, select WiFi Direct.
  3. On the TV, in the “Network” section, also select the item with the same name.
  4. Typically, confirmation of synchronization is carried out on the phone, but in some cases such actions need to be carried out on the TV.

As I said at the beginning of the article, everything is quite simple. If you connect your TV to your phone via Wifi, this will avoid unnecessary wires appearing in the middle of your apartment.

Using the wired method is advisable at home, because you don’t always have the right cable at hand, and at home you won’t have any problems finding it. You can connect your phone via USB or HDMI.

The most popular connection method is via HDMI. This cable has high data transfer speed. You can watch videos and listen to audio recordings on your own! But, of course, this method is only suitable if the smartphone also has a suitable connector.

Using USB, the TV will use the phone as a flash drive, reading presentations, video files, and so on from it. Insert the mini USB/micro USB cable into the desired input on your smartphone, and the other end into the USB port of the TV. That's it, now you can use your TV as a presentation board! Just keep in mind that before connecting wired, turn off both your phone and TV!

Connect wirelessly

Of course, there is a way to connect your phone to your TV without using a cable. It is based on Wi-Fi transmission technology. So you can wirelessly view files from your gadget at any time convenient for you! Only such a connection is possible exclusively with a TV that supports this platform for interacting with the Internet.

So, first download a special application to your phone that will allow you to establish a wireless connection. You need to choose based on the manufacturer of your TV. For example, for Panasonic you need to download Panasonic TV Remote 2, for Samsung – Samsung Smart View. The connection will be possible by connecting both devices to a Wi-Fi point. On the gadget screen, the application will scan the network, after which it will detect your TV.

It is worth noting that some Android devices can support the Wi-Fi Miracast protocol - it “mirrors” what is shown on the phone screen. And if you are an iPhone owner, then you can connect your phone to your TV using AirPiay technology. To do this you need to buy a special attachment.

Wi-Fi Direct technology provides a wireless connection where you don't need to tie your device to your home network. Only both the TV and the smartphone must support this technology to run it. First, Wi-Fi Direct must be launched on (find it in the “Wireless Network” settings). Repeat the procedure in the TV menu. When the TV detects your smartphone, all you have to do is send a connection request.

That’s all – you’ll probably be able to find one that’s suitable for you among the listed methods for connecting your gadget to a TV!

More recently, the ability to connect a phone to a TV via a USB cable seemed incredible, and why was it necessary if a few years ago phones could do very little.

But progress does not stand still, and technology is becoming more and more smart and functional, so today there is nothing surprising in such a symbiosis of two gadgets. Now you can watch videos on the big screen, look at every detail of the photos you take, and also get an unforgettable experience from mobile games. Let's figure out how to do this.

Displaying the smartphone display on the TV screen

Let's imagine that you decide to visit a certain website on the Internet, but it is not optimized for the small screens of mobile devices, and therefore the content is difficult to understand. In such a situation, it would be nice to be able to use a TV that has a significantly larger diagonal, and we have such an opportunity. The most common connectors on smartphones and TVs are microusb and hdmi, respectively. This means that we need an adapter cable that allows us to connect both of these devices. Armed with a cable, the further procedure looks quite simple:

The choice of adapter is of considerable importance, so do not take the first one you come across, but pay attention to such parameters as:

  • Type of signal;
  • Supported Resolution;
  • Sound channels, they can be volumetric or compressed;
  • The material from which the cable is made is also important, because we do not want it to fail prematurely due to physical wear and tear.

Pay close attention to MHL adapters; they are specially designed for connecting mobile devices and, without exception, support Full HD mode. In addition to directly transmitting the video signal, such adapters simultaneously charge the smartphone.

Some manufacturers, LG and Nexus developers have been especially successful in this, equip their devices with Slimport technology, which eliminates the need for the owner to configure the operating system and connect power. But you should know that this standard works only with high-quality wires, and therefore you won’t be able to save money.

Using a TV with a VGA connector

Most modern TVs are equipped with an HDMI port, but there is a chance that your model is equipped with outdated VGA sockets.

In such a situation, a MicroUSB to VGA adapter will come in handy, but, unfortunately, they can rarely be found on sale. If the search is unsuccessful, then you can use two adapters connected to each other and having output connectors suitable for us. We connect the smartphone via a MicroUSB-HDMI cable to another cord that has an HDMI-VGA connection and voila, the TV displays the data we need from the smartphone.

Viewing the contents of the internal memory of your mobile phone

If you are not interested in the image on the smartphone screen, but in its contents located in the internal memory or on a flash card, then you can always use the MicroUSB-USB adapter, which usually comes with the phone and is used to charge it.

The action plan is as follows:

  1. We connect the cable to the phone and TV connectors.
  2. Your smartphone will recognize the connection and prompt you to select a communication mode; find the storage mode in the list.
  3. Using the remote control, we switch the TV to media file reading mode.
  4. Depending on the TV model, the name of the button may vary, but most likely it will sound like “Multimedia” or “USB”; if such buttons are not detected, select “Source”.
  5. In the section that appears, select the desired signal source.

You may experience USB connection problems, a common cause of which is the MTP file transfer mode settings. Often, this mode is applied by default as soon as the smartphone recognizes the connected device, which means we need to manually ensure booting in storage mode, for this we will need to perform the following sequence of actions:

  1. Download and install the Android Terminal Emulator application.
  2. After launch, enter SU into the pop-up window.
  3. Now the program should ask you for master user rights - confirm it.
  4. The following command is entered into the line − setprop persist . sys . usb . config mass _ storage , adb.
  5. Press the enter key and then write the reboot command in the line, after which we press enter again.
  6. The phone will reboot and will now work in the mode we need.

Potential problems

The situation described above is not the only pitfall that you may encounter on the way to using the TV screen to display information from your smartphone. Very often, the lack of results may be the result of an incorrect connection or a faulty cable; here you just need to carefully connect the smartphone again or replace the faulty cord.

Sometimes the TV may be unable to play certain video formats, and therefore the only way to launch it will be to first convert the file to a suitable extension using specialized computer programs.

Don't forget that wireless connections, for example, the new Miracast standard, are becoming increasingly popular. It will save you from having to look for a suitable cord, but in this case you need Wi-Fi support on both your smartphone and TV, and the signal will not be as reliable as when connecting with a cable, which means the picture may be confused.

This standard is becoming increasingly popular among many manufacturers, including well-known world leaders in the production of mobile equipment such as Samsung and Sony, as well as lesser-known, but also very popular in our country, ZTE and Lenovo. If you have not yet tried to use a TV as a screen to display information from a smartphone, then try it, you will probably like it and when you are at home you will probably prefer this method of web surfing or watching videos, which is much more comfortable than reading pictures from a tiny five-inch screen .

It seems that just recently mobile phones burst into our lives, and now no one is surprised that a modern phone is no longer just a phone. In terms of its capabilities, a modern smartphone surpasses the technology used by the air defense forces of the North American continent in 1965.

In fact, we are witnessing the fastest in history introduction of technology into our lives, and we often cannot keep up with all the capabilities of our gadgets. Therefore, in this article we will try to figure out how to connect your phone to a TV.

Why is this necessary? Well, it’s probably a good idea to view your files on a big screen, for example photos or videos. A modern smartphone connected to a TV can essentially be used as a compact media player.

There are several different ways to make such a connection, which one is suitable for you depends on your devices and their technical parameters. But let's take things in order. I will try to be as detailed as possible, since my experience shows that some users do not know, for example, how to make the necessary switches on the TV.

Quick navigation through the article

How to connect and what does connecting your phone to a TV via USB connectors give you?

The simplest possible connection is via a USB port. Your smartphone certainly has a MicroUSB port, I hope that your TV also has such a port, only without micro, just USB. We are talking about flat-screen TVs; you don’t have to look for it in older models.

The next ingredient we need is a connecting cable with a MicroUSB connector on one end and a USB connector on the other. This is the same cable that you use to charge your phone, only now the end of the cable that you inserted into the charger needs to be connected to the USB port of the TV.

What's next?

When everything is connected, we pick up the TV remote control. Our task is to switch it to media file reading mode.

How to do it? Here everything will depend on the TV manufacturer, different companies organize this path in different ways, some have a “MULTIMEDIA” or “USB” button right on the remote control. In some TV models from SONY, LG, you can switch to multimedia mode through the “HOME” button.

Another very common option is to find the “SOURСE” button on the remote control; it is often indicated by a rectangle with an arrow pointing inside it. Click on this button and get to the menu for selecting signal sources, for example this one.

Menu for switching TV inputs, in this example you need to select the third item “USB”

But I repeat, different brands of TVs will have their own way, the general principle remains: “You need to select USB as the signal source, or this item can be called “Multimedia”

We choose... and most often we find ourselves in another menu where we are asked to choose what type of files we want to view - “Video”, “Audio” or “Photo”, select what you need and view what you want. In fact, with this connection, your smartphone acts as a memory card or flash drive, so if you had to view files from a flash drive on your TV, then you can handle it with your phone without any problems, everything is the same, only your phone is connected instead of a memory card.

The advantages of this method are accessibility - a standard charging cable is used, a widespread thing. And also the fact that your phone will be charged at the same time. The disadvantages include the fact that this method only allows you to view files stored on your phone, but you will not be able, for example, to surf the Internet and display all this on the TV screen.

You can’t display a picture from a smartphone screen on a TV screen this way.

What else you need to remember

After viewing in the “Multimedia” mode, do not forget to re-enter the menu for selecting signal sources and return to what was turned on, for example, it was the Antenna or HDMI input, especially if you were enjoying your photos at someone’s house. It’s not good to leave the owners without a TV if they don’t know how to get everything back. Believe me, this happens. Therefore, make sure that the TV is showing TV programs again.

How to connect and what does connecting your phone to a TV via HDMI connectors give you?

The next simple way to connect these two devices is through the HDMI port. And if your phone/smartphone has this connector, then there are no problems at all. Externally, Micro-HDMI (and in the phone it will be “Micro” and sometimes “Mini”) is very similar to “MicroUSB”, but this is not the same thing. However, this type of video output is not very common and there are not many devices that have it.

For such a connection, you will need a “MicroHDMI” - “HDMI” cable. We connect the cable to the phone and the TV using the free HDMI port of the TV. On the TV, go to the menu for selecting signal sources (more on this was a little higher in the text) and select the HDMI item that corresponds to the number of the HDMI port to which you connected. This is the case if there are several of these ports, for example HDMI 1 or 2. Often the required connected port is highlighted on the TV screen, so you can’t go wrong.

MicroHDMI - HDMI connection

The image from the phone screen should appear on the TV, if suddenly this does not happen, then there may be a problem in the phone settings. Usually everything happens automatically, but if this does not happen, you can configure it manually. Go to your phone settings and select the HDMI section, then look for the HDMI format. In the window that appears, select the resolution and frequency that your TV supports.

The advantages of this method: Everything that is on the screen of your smartphone is also on the TV screen; surf the Internet, watch a movie online, videos, play, everything will be reflected through the big screen.

The disadvantages are that not all mobile devices have an HDMI output, and also that the phone will not be charged through this connection; you will have to connect the charger at the same time.

By the way, modern computers and laptops also have an HDMI port and it can also be used to connect them to a TV that has the same port. But there is one important subtlety here that if you don’t take into account, you can damage both your TV and your computer.

However, whatever one may say, the methods described above can already be considered outdated, they have been replaced by new formats MHL, SlimPort and wireless technologies.

Smart TVs Samsung, lg, sony, philips, dexp, bbk, supra, toshiba, haier, tcl, mhl, aux, sharp, htc, telefunken, panasonic, thomson, tricolor, allshare, akai, doffler, jvc, orion, shivaki, hisense, goldstar, dns, bibikey, rolsen, harper and others are becoming very popular. Their biggest advantage is functionality.

In addition to transmitting television stations, they allow, among other things, browsing the Internet, listening to music and supporting YouTube.

In addition, you can connect a whole range of peripheral devices to them, such as modern mobile phones xiaomi, honor, samsung, meiza, huawei, nokia, asus, lenovo, zte, bq, fusion, prestige, dexp, micromax and so on.

With this method, you can stream any media stored on your phone directly to your TV screen.

To do this, there are several ways to connect both devices that you should know.

In addition, special applications allow you to use your smartphone as a universal remote control.

By the way, do you know that the phone can be used as a remote control for a TV, and not just use it, but get much more convenience compared to a regular one -

Do you have a smart TV

First, it’s worth answering the question: “does your TV have a Smart TV feature?” Simply put, Smart TV is a combination of a traditional TV with Internet access.

Please note that you will not be able to connect your phone to an old TV (not in terms of years, but in terms of characteristics) even with a USB cable, although the TV will have a USB connector.

Although this feature greatly expands the capabilities of the TV as a receiver, in addition to the TV equipment with special software for connecting the phone, your TV must also support some applications.

How to connect your phone to TV wirelessly

A Wi-Fi network is available in almost every home. When buying your first smart TV, you should pay attention to the ability to connect to the Internet using radio waves (WiFi), because some of them do not have this very useful feature and require connection via a traditional network cable.

In this case, synchronization with a smartphone will be extremely simple. Things get more complicated when your TV doesn't have a WiFi module.

Then you need to use a special HDMI connecting cable. Below you will find the three most common ways to connect your phone to your TV.

Connecting your phone to a TV without wifi using an HDMI cable

If the TV you purchased does not have WiFi functionality, then you need to use a more traditional solution - via an HDMI cable.

Each of modern smartphones has a Micro USB connector. Most of them support MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) mode, which allows you to transmit uncompressed images with a resolution of 1080p, 8-channel audio and protected transmitted content using the HDCP protocol.

All information about your phone is provided in the attached operating instructions or you can read the specifications on the Internet.

To connect your phone using an HDMI cable, you need to purchase a special MHL (Micro-USB to HDMI) adapter.

The price of the original accessory is about $50, but there are cheaper substitutes available on the market that cost several times less.

I didn't notice any difference in performance or image quality, so the choice is clear.

This type of connection allows you to stream the image displayed on your phone's screen, but takes up some system resources so your device may run slower—especially when playing 3D graphics in mobile games.

Some adapters have a built-in ability to connect to a smartphone power source - this is worth using if you're using your phone for extended periods of time, eliminating the need to unplug devices to charge the battery.

Connecting your phone to your TV via WiFi Direct

WiFi Direct technology is becoming increasingly popular - it is beginning to displace traditional content via Wi-Fi.

In a nutshell, WiFi Direct works like a virtual HDMI cable. This protocol allows content to be exchanged between two connected devices.

Plus, you can mirror your phone's screen directly to your TV, thereby bypassing the tedious process of searching for content.

The first step we need to take is to check that your phone supports the sync feature. To do this, go to options and search for WiFi Direct.

Then, in accordance with the operating instructions for the TV, activate the ability to connect peripheral devices.

A good example is lg smart TVs, which offer Smart Share - a multimedia transfer protocol over Wi-Fi.

In many phones, Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung, Meizu, Lumiya, ZTE, Lenovo, DXP, Highway and so on, you can find the Smart View function.

If you have one, click on the icon and select the name of your TV (for example, LG SMXXXX SmartTV, where X is the model number).

If your TV doesn't appear in the list, you may need to restart your TV and your mobile phone.

After successful synchronization, your phone screen should appear on your TV screen.

From now on, you can do all kinds of activities - watch YouTube, play videos recorded using your phone camera, and play music.

  • Attention - every action you take will be shown exactly the same on TV!

What if your phone doesn't have Smart View option? In this case, you must download from the play market and install a special application called Miracast.

If the devices you want to connect to each other support the miracast standard, you can send the image from our mobile phone to the TV via Wi-Fi.

Miracast uses H.264 encoding for good picture quality. An alternative to this solution is Google Chromecast.

To connect to the selected equipment, you must have at least one device with a certified Wi-Fi Direct card.

Then select the device you want to send the image to. In our case, we connect to the TV by selecting the appropriate item in the list, and in this way we complete the procedure for connecting devices.

How to connect your phone to a TV without wifi - with a cable via USB

Connecting with a USB cable is one of the simplest and at the same time the least effective (you will find out why below).

To do this, you will need to purchase a cable with a MicroUSB and USB connector (today this is used in chargers).

The switching process depends on the Samsung, Sony, Philips, Bravia, Supra, Toshiba, Toshiba, Panasonic, Mystery, aux, Thomson or Sharp TV - each manufacturer sets its own procedure.

In any case, you need to select the signal source - “USB” or “Multimedia”. Next, you are usually asked to select the type of files you want to view: video, photo or audio.

Essentially, your phone acts as a storage device, so, for example, you won’t be able to play games on the big screen or browse the Internet.

Controlling your TV from your phone

A mobile phone can be used as... a TV remote control. Moreover, it does not have to have a built-in infrared port - control is carried out via a WiFi network.

Of course, some models, such as the Samsung Galaxy S6, are enriched with IrDA functionality, which greatly simplifies the whole process - just launch a special application, point the device at the TV and enjoy the control.

Every application requires proper configuration. There are two options: automatic and manual.

The first is based on synchronizing with older technology using a special wizard, while the second allows you to select the specific model of TV that you have. Good luck.
